What is ultrasound?

It uses sound waves to create a 3-dimentional image of a particular area of the body in real-time. Unlike other imaging methods, which have high doses of radiation that can contribute to cancer, or are magnetized and exclude folks who have certain implanted metallic devices, ultrasound has virtually ZERO radiation, and ZERO effects on metal.

 

Why would you need an ultrasound?

When certain symptoms are present, your healthcare provider may want to evaluate what could be the source by visualizing structures under the skin. These could be blood vessels, hollow organs, or even solid organs. It’s a quick, non-invasive way to make a diagnosis:
